Uploading with Microsoft Frontpage

One popular method of publishing a Web site is Microsoft's FrontPage Publisher. FrontPage is a WYSIWYG...a What You See Is What You Get HTML editor. It's uses many of Microsoft's standard MS Office controls and allows easy publication and modification of a Web site. To use FrontPage to publish your Web site, connect to the Internet and follow the directions below:

NOTE: Your Web site MUST have FrontPage Extensions to use FrontPage. All Speed Factory Professional Web Hosting service plans include these extensions. The free personal Web space provided with residential Dial-Up accounts DOES NOT include these extensions.

  1. Open FrontPage 2000
  2. Click file and then open web.
  3. After, another screen will appear.
  4. Next to Folder name, type the full URL of your domain (http://www.yourdomain.com)
  5. Then hit open.
  6. FrontPage will connect to the Speed Factory Web hosting server containing your domain. You will be prompted for a username and password. Type them in all lowercase.
  7. After confirming your access information, you will be able to open any existing files within your domain. If you have not yet published anything to your domain, continue to follow the directions below:
  8. After you have accessed your site, you will see a folder list appear. Hit Cancel.
  9. Now click File, Open and go to file location on your local hard drive.
  10. Open the default file (usually index.html) of your site.
  11. Click File and Publish Web (NOT "import"...that's for another lesson).
  12. Follow the online instructions and you will successfully have published your Web site.

Uploading with WS_FTP (or FTP Client)

To set up your Speed Factory Dial Internet Service using Windows NT, please follow the instructions below:

To publish your web pages to your web space you will need to use a type of program called an FTP client. A free FTP client called WS-FTP is available for download here. To use WS-FTP LE, connect to the Internet. Open WS-FTP. On the left side you'll see, a directory usually the WS-FTP Program folder, there is a green arrow at the top,double click it.

You will then be in your program files, double click the green arrow again. You will then be in drive c:/ find your web page files Click the Connect button. You are now going to make a profile telling the computer where to connect, In the session properties, click the New button.

  1. Profile Name:Speed Factory
  2. Address:home.speedfactory.net
  3. Username: your login name
  4. Password:***
  5. Check the save password box click okay, the computer will then connect to your web space and you'll hear a train whistle sound.
  6. You then double click the file on your computer that you want to transfer on to the webserver. A little transfer status box will come up and when it's done uploading, it will make a funny whirring sound and the transfer box will disappear.
  7. When you're done transferring pages and the images that go with them, make sure that the name of your starting page is index.htm(l) or default.htm(l) just click the cancel button on the bottom and close program. Now go to your browser and type in your web site address (home.speedfactory.net/loginname) And view your web site.
  8. Next time you start WS-FTP, just click connect and Find Speed Factory by clicking the Profile Name drop down box.
